Ways to Avoid getting Scammed on the Internet

With so many sites on the internet offering you from $10 for a survey to a one thousand dollar gift card to Best Buy, it is very easy to put in your information only to get scammed. Here are some tips to make sure that you do not get scammed from the Internet and possibly get your identity stolen.

First and most importantly, try looking up the website that you are purchasing from on the Better Business Bureau, also known as the BBB. The BBB is a site that gives most Businesses a letter grade based on many factors, such as the number of complaints filed and how long the business has been running. If you are on a site that is not good, the BBB will tell you why and how many unsolved complaints have been filed against the website. Knowing this information, you can avoid using that site rather than giving it your personally information and basically telling the website to scam you. The BBB is a very useful site in finding out the legitimacy of a website.

Secondly, it is important to run a quick Internet search about the website that you are using. Simply go to a search engine like Google and type in the business name along with legitimacy. This will take you many other sites with reviews from other people who have used the website before. This information can tell you if the site is real or just a scam to take your money and never send you the item that you ordered. By reading the reviews of people who have used the site before, you will be able to know if the site has scammed previous users. This way, you can stop using the site. If the site has many positive reviews, it is probably safe to use the site.

The last important thing to stop you from getting scammed while Internet shopping is to look through the actually website from which you are shopping from. By evaluating the website, it is easy to tell if the website is real or if it was just put only to steal your money. One thing to do is go under the “About Us” tab to learn about the site. If there is a location, search it on Google Maps. If a real place comes up, it is likely that the site you are using is real and not a scam. On the other hand, if there is no “About Us” section, it is most likely that the site is a scam.

There are many sites out on the Internet that will take your information, money, and never send you the product that you bought. By following the steps above, it is extremely easy to avoid these sites and, as a result, avoid getting scammed while Internet shopping. After all, nobody wants their money stolen when they were online to buy an important item.
