Program to Make a Website

Building a website no longer requires the skills that were a must years ago. There is some handy dandy software out there that allows you to drag-and-drop text and images till you like what you see, and there you have it: your very own website.

However, there are also applications out there meant for the more experienced web designers. They offer features such as checking code for errors and they also offer a great environment to work in by coloring the code you write so you can quickly see and debug errors in your code.

I’ll show you a couple two must-have programs, one for the beginning amateur web designer, and one for the more experienced ones!

= Web Page Maker =

The first application which I will discuss is meant for the amateur web-designers out there who would like to make their very first website. Web Page Maker is a great application which offers you an easy-to-use environment. You can create your web pages in just minutes and upload it to a remote FTP server using the built-in FTP engine in Web Page Maker.

The main advantage of this engine is that you do not even have to install additional FTP software such as WS_FTP and CuteFTP. Just enter the remote host path and your password and you’re done.

Other features include drag-and-drop of any object you would like, and afterwards, you can freely position them anywhere you want. Web Page Maker does all the coding for you. Web Page Maker comes with a few pre-designed templates to get the real amateurs who can’t create a template yet started. This program also allows you to create navigation menus in seconds. Additional other tools include free JavaScript snippets such as clocks or custom mouse pointers and much more.

The only downside to this application would be its price which is a daunting $49.00, but I think it’s worth it if you don’t have future plans to learn HTML yourself. You can try the program for free by clicking on this link.

= Adobe Dreamweaver =

Adobe Dreamweaver will scare amateur web designers upon launching this application. It is meant for more experienced web designers. It offers an extensive manual to get you started. A great feature I like in Dreamweaver is the reference panel. Here you can read reference ‘books’ for almost any languages written by professionals, just in case you forgot something. It offers help for eight languages: HTML, PHP, JavaScript, CSS, Coldfusion, asp, xslt and xml.

Other features include website previewing in locally-installed web browsers, allowing you to check your site in different browsers which is great for debugging your website. There’s many more but this application is so versatile that you should definitely give it a try yourself. You can download a free trial here.

Although Dreamweaver offers a WYSIWYG environment, I don’t think this application is meant for that. But for more experiences web designers, Adobe Dreamweaver is heaven on earth. The only downside is the price again, which is $399.00, but I guess it’s worth it if you’re very serious about web-designing and want to use the best application available.
