How to Remove Apps on an Android Phone

Android is the fastest growing mobile operating system. The primary attraction for Android is attributed to its large pool of available exciting apps, part of which is free to use, while others require a payment as charged by the developer. An app is initially installed through Android “Market.” If you wish to remove an app after a certain time from your Android phone, simply follow the process below:

Go to your Android “Market.” Click “Downloads” and you will see a list of all the apps installed on your device. Select the app you want to remove and select “Uninstall.” You will be asked to select a reason for removing the app. This information provides user feedback to the developer and helps in the future improvement of the app. Once you have selected the reason, click “Uninstall” again. The app will be removed from your device. You may visit the “Market” again later to install the app.

There is another method to remove an app from your Android device through the device settings. The steps are given below:

Go to “Settings” on your device and select “Applications.” Click “Manage applications.” A list of all the apps currently installed will appear on your device screen. Select the app you wish to remove and click “Uninstall.” Click “OK” and the app will be removed from your device.

An important point to be noted here is the difference between manually installed and pre-installed apps. While apps such as “Talking Tom” are manually installed, other apps like “Amazon MP3” are pre-installed through Android. In the case of a pre-installed app, you may not be able to remove it from your device. Instead, you need to put it out of sync or force close when you don’t need it.

Another point to note is the difference between a free and paid app. If you are removing a free app, there is no need to worry, because you may install it anytime in future. However, if you have paid for an app during installation, you may wish to review its terms and conditions for refund. Most of the paid apps only provide up to a day to remove it and claim a full refund. In case the deadline is exceeded, you may not get a refund. In case you only want to remove it temporarily, you may install it again anytime in future without requiring a fresh payment.
