How to add your own photos to the desktop

Having beautiful photos on your desktop background is wonderful. They just light up your mood. While there are a number of themes available to select from, sometimes you just want the uniqueness, a selection of photos of your own. Photos that you handpicked yourself, which inspire you or bring out that beautiful memories.

Adding your own selection of photos to your window desktop is easy. Just open up the “Desktop Background” window in your computer. There are two ways you can do this in Windows 7. One way is to click on the Start button, and select Control Panel. This opens up Control Panel window. In this window, make sure the “View by” option on the top right is set to “Category”. If it is not, click on the drop-down menu and select “Category”. Under the “Appearance and Personalization” category, click on the link “Change desktop background” and this brings you to the “Desktop Background” page.

The second way of doing it is to click on the “Show desktop” button at the end of your taskbar, which is situated beside the date and time. This will minimizes all windows and brings you to the desktop background. Right click on the background and select “Personalize” in the context menu. This opens up a window displaying the “Personalization” page. At the bottom of the page, click the “Desktop Background” link, which leads you to the “Desktop Background” page.

Now, in the “Desktop Background” page, click the “Browse…” button in the “Picture location” field and select the folder where you have your selection of photos stored. All photos in the folder selected will be displayed for your selection. By default, all are selected. You can deselect the ones you want to omit. Or if you want to just select a few, click on the “Clear all” button and select only the photos you want.

When you are done selecting, set other options such as “Picture position” (Fill, Fit, Stretch, Tile or Center), “Change picture every” (the length of time each picture will be displayed), “Shuffle” (tick this to pick the picture randomly), and pause option (tick this to pause the slide show when your laptop is using battery power). Then, finally click “Save changes” button to confirm your selection. This will brings you back to the “Personalization” page.

In the “Personalization” page, your photos selection is represented by the icon named as “Unsaved Theme” under the “My Themes” section. To name your selection, click the “Save theme” link just below this section, and key in a suitable name for it in the pop-up window. That’s it, and you can now close the Control Panel window.

Now, that it is all set, click on the “Show desktop” button at the end of your taskbar to see the setting in action. Just sit back and enjoy the slide show in your desktop background and let it inspires you.
