Brother Mfc 7220 Printer Review

If you’re looking for the printer or all in one unit that, simply put, just plain does it all and does it well, then you’ve come to the right place. The Brother MFC-7220 is not only a jack of all trades, it accomplishes each of them with impressive speed and quality, making it more or less the ultimate home office companion.

At first glance the unit may come across as unintimidating due to it’s compact size, measuring only 14.7″ x 14.7″ x 10.3″ and weighing in at a mere 16.3 pounds, but don’t be fooled by its looks. The Brother MFC-7220 comes stacked with features and can be used as a printer, copier, fax machine, scanner, and even telephone. It takes an entire desk full of machines and boils them into one unit, while maintaining a surprisingly reasonable price range.

The print speeds are adequate enough to suit most home business or small office needs, clocking in at a swift 20 pages per minute, and the 250 sheet capacity paper tray can hold letter or legal sized paper depending on your demands. On top of this there is a single sheet bypass tray that allows hand feeding of envelopes, or other oddly shaped media such as labels or custom letterhead, and you can rely on true laser technology to keep your documents coming out not only quickly, but with high, crisp definition.

Clean, clear text is a must when producing professional documents, and the MFC-7220 will keep your work looking great with a maximum print resolution of up to 1200 X 600 dots per inch, while the parallel and USB ports give you the option of connecting to both PC and Macintosh operating systems, including Windows Seven, and OS 10.6, Snow Leopard software.

You won’t need a PC to simply copy or fax, however, thanks to dedicated buttons and a comprehensive, easy to read LCD display that allow you to fine tune an array of controls, or simply hit the green button and be on your way. You can even store up to 500 pages of work in the printer itself thanks to 16 MBs of on board memory.

Another helpful tool designed to keep your office moving is the built in 20 page automatic document feeder that can be loaded with a stack of paper which will in turn be fed through the machine automatically, which can be a major time saver when dealing with larger fax projects, copying, or even scanning, and mechanical failure will not be a problem even under grueling conditions. With a recommended monthly print volume of between 250 to 2,000 sheets, and a maximum monthly duty cycle of 10,000 printed pages, the MFC-7220 is built to last.

The fax machine is equipped with a 14.4 K modem that can operate at a transmission speed of as little as 6 seconds per page, making it at least a decent competitor for speed. That being said, as an all in one unit, the Brother MFC-7220 remains at the top of its class for features and versatility when price is a factor.
